A Light Weight, Ubuntu-Based Linux Distro

WattOS is a new Linux distribution that’s based on Ubuntu, but designed for low-power machines. It has low system requirements, which means you can run it on older hardware. But the developers are also hoping to build advanced power management features into the OS so that you’ll have a full Linux desktop experience without consuming much power (by today’s computer standards).

FreeNAS: The Free NAS Server

FreeNAS is a free NAS (Network-Attached Storage) server, supporting: CIFS (samba), FTP, NFS, AFP, RSYNC, iSCSI protocols, S.M.A.R.T., local user authentication, Software RAID (0,1,5) with a Full WEB configuration interface. FreeNAS takes less than 32MB once installed on Compact Flash, hard drive or USB key.

Cheap Infrastructure For Start Ups

Google’s App Engine is the latest service to reduce operating costs for Web startups.

A few weeks ago, Google launched a test version of App Engine, an infrastructure service aimed specifically at Web developers. The product is one of several offering cheap infrastructure to Web businesses, so that they can rent storage and processing power and avoid expensive hardware purchases.
